A symbol of power and beauty, the Red Fort was the heart of Shahjahanabad (present-day Old Delhi), the bustling new capital built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. In 1639, Shah Jahan decided to move his court from Agra to Delhi and ordered the Red Fort to be built as his majestic new home. It served as the residence of Mughal emperors for almost 200 years! This architectural marvel, named for its towering red sandstone walls, along with the historic Salimgarh Fort, creates a stunning and expansive heritage site – the Red Fort Complex. The palace's design draws from Islamic traditions, yet each pavilion showcases a unique blend of Mughal architecture, seamlessly merging Persian, Timurid, and Hindu influences. This innovative style, coupled with its picturesque gardens, has left an indelible mark on architectural practices in Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra, and beyond.
The tomb is the final resting place of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, who ruled India from 1530 to 1540 and again from 1555 until his death in 1556. The construction of the tomb started in 1565 and was completed nine years later in 1574. One of the most striking features of the tomb is its symmetry. The tomb is square-shaped and is set within a lush garden complex, further adding to its beauty. The memorial also houses several other structures, including the Nila Gumbad, the Arab Serai, the Bu Halima garden, and other smaller tombs. The architecture of the tomb is breathtaking, incorporating elements from Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles. The tomb's central dome takes inspiration from the Persian style of architecture, while the arches and the intricate lattice work showcase the Indian designing styles. The use of red sandstone and white marble further adds to the monument's beauty, making it a perfect blend of different styles..
The Lotus Temple, located in Delhi, India, is a Bahá’í House of Worship that was dedicated in December 1986, costing $10 million. Notable for its flowerlike shape, it has become a prominent attraction in the city. Like all Bahá’í Houses of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open to all, regardless of religion or any other qualification. The building is composed of 27 free-standing marble-clad “petals” arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides, with nine doors opening onto a central hall with a height of slightly over 40 metres and a capacity of 2,500 people. The Lotus Temple has won numerous architectural awards and has been featured in many newspaper and magazine articles. A 2001 CNN report referred to it as the most visited building in the world. Lotus temple is situated near Nehru Place and Kalkaji Mandir metro station is just 500 meters away.
The Qutb Minar, also spelled as Qutub Minar and Qutab Minar, is a minaret and "victory tower" that forms part of the Qutb complex. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mehrauli area of New Delhi, India. It is one of most visited tourist spots in the city due to it being one of the earliest that survives in the Indian subcontinent. It can be compared to the 62-metre all-brick Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan, of c. 1190, which was constructed a decade or so before the probable start of the Delhi tower. The surfaces of both are elaborately decorated with inscriptions and geometric patterns. The Qutb Minar has a shaft that is fluted with "superb stalactite bracketing under the balconies" at the top of each stage.
